Exploring Icebergs in Shakes Lake

We offer many tours for you to choose from based on your level of paddle skills, sense of adventure, time available and level of interest in Wrangell's history. You will see that we offer many guided tours both Saltwater based tours around the Wrangell area and Freshwater tours in the Stikine/LeConte Wilderness area. Following are guided tours and pricing. We also offer boat and gear rentals, and trip support for those wanting an unguided experience.  Half day, full day and multi day rates available.  We operate top of the line equipment - Perception, Dagger, Mad River brand manufactures.

Wrangell based tours:  Paddle, hike, bike tours (all gear is provided, (food on overnight tours provided) you just need layered clothing, appropriate foot wear,  toiletries, cameras and a sense of adventure)

Rainbow Falls Experience - This tour is great for those with little to no experience paddling. Depart Wrangell from our downtown launch float, paddle 4.5 miles along the Wrangell waterfront to Shoemaker Bay harbor. There begin your hike up the U.S. Forest Service maintained trail (1 mile long, 600 plus steps for a elevation gain of 500 feet) after viewing the falls and catching your breath return to Shoemaker Bay where your bikes await you for the 4.5 mile bike ride on the waterfront bike path back to downtown Wrangell.  $99.00 plus 7% City Sales Tax. Approximate time 5 hrs. (the hike portion can be greatly extended to the Shoemaker Bay or High Country overlooks, about a 9 mile round trip. add $30.00 per person and about 3-4 hrs of hiking time).

Turn Island Triathlon - This tour is great for those that have 2 days and a night to spend. Depart Wrangell from our downtown launch float and paddle south14 miles to the Kunk Lake Forest Service trail where you will hike the 1 mile trail to the three sided shelter overlooking the lake. After departing Kunk Lake enjoy the short paddle of 4 miles to the Turn Island trail system where you will spend the night tenting on the provided tent platforms. In the morning your bikes await you after a short .5 mile hike to the Nemo Point road system. You have a 18 mile bike ride ahead of you (4 miles unpaved, 14 miles paved) traveling through virgin Forested, Muskeg and logged areas much of the paved portion is the "burps" of Wrangell and along Zimovia Straits (saltwater). $399.00 per person plus 7%City Sales Tax.

Mill Creek Paddle - Another tour that requires 2 days and a night. Depart Wrangell from our downtown launch float, paddle past the historic "Deadman's" Island as you travel 12 miles on your way to Mill Creek. There you will be able to explore the relics of one of the earliest sawmills in Southeast Alaska. Spend the night tent camping, near the cascading waterfall that empties from Virginia Lake into the saltwater. Take a scenic walk up the U.S. Forest Service maintained trail (1 mile) for more sights of the sawmill history, Rainforest and Muskeg to Virginia Lake. Paddle back to Wrangell where bikes will be available for you to tour town, petroglyph beach and the 4.5 mile bike path along Zimovia Straits. $349.00 per person plus 7% City Sales Tax.

Stikine/LeConte Wilderness tours: (all gear is provided, you just need layered clothing, appropriate foot wear,  toiletries, cameras and a sense of adventure)

Stikine River - (2-4 day tour) This tour requires little to no experience paddling. Depart from Wrangell with boats and gear onboard one of our top of the line twin engine jet boats for your drop off on the Stikine River.  There are two main departure locations that Breakaway Adventures uses; 1) the U.S. / Canadian Border 2) Shakes Lake Glacier. Be prepared for the awesome scenery of the Towering Coastal Mountain Range filled with Glaciers, Waterfalls and more.  Enjoy the Chief Shakes Hot Springs, explore the Icebergs and Glacier of Shakes Lake. Learn of the history of the Stikine River - the Fastest Freeflowing River in North America, as you enjoy your paddle. Although cold (fed by those awesome glaciers) and fast, this is not a highly technical river and not a whitewater experience. $399.00 per person plus drop off price (varies on location) and 7% City Sales Tax.

Telegraph BC Canada - (7 day tour) This tour requires paddling experience. Depart from Wrangell with boats and gear onboard one of our top of the line twin engine jet boats for your drop off 160 miles up the Stikine River and into British Columbia, Canada.  Be prepared for the adventure of a lifetime as you witness the scenery and climate shift from a Boreal Forest to the Rainforest of Southeast Alaska. This takes place while you paddle down the mighty Stikine River through the Coastal Mountain Range filled with hanging glaciers. We specialize in spring and fall paddles on this one (mid May-June, September-first week in October). Tours can be arrange throughout the summer also. $1,400 per person plus drop off price and 7% City Sales Tax
